Semaglutide & Tirzepatide are an injectable medications that was approved by the FDA in 2021 for weight loss management in adults when used in combination with a healthy diet and exercise. Semaglutide is a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) that demonstrates improved control of food cravings, reduced appetite, reduced HbA1C, and insulin resistance. These effects translate into real weight loss.  This New England Journal of Medicine Article demonstrates that patients that took semaglutide weekly for 68 weeks, when combined with a healthy diet and exercise, lost 15% of their body weight, compared to less than 3% for those patients given a placebo.

Unlike many medications, semaglutide is best tolerated by slowly ramping up the dose over the course of a few months.  The weekly dose will be increased every 2-4 weeks as tolerated until an ideal dose is reached (usually in 3-5 months).  At your consultation, our nurse will teach you how to self-administer the injections at home. Of course, all needed supplies and training are given at no additional charge.
